New or Moving to Palm Beach County? Here’s Three Things You Need to Know!
If you’ve ever walked on a Jupiter beach in February, you probably have no trouble imagining why so many Northerners move to Palm Beach County, Florida. Young families and retired couples alike are trading snow, ice, and frigid cold for sun, sand and cool breezes. While you can’t beat the Florida winters, if you’re new to South Florida (or if you have friends who are considering a move) there are some things you need to know about the local real estate market before you start shopping for your new home.
- Your home insurance is going to cost more. Although the area doesn’t get hit by hurricanes as much as you might expect, the potential risk is there. And your home must be insured just in case. You can offset some of these costs by purchasing a home with, or installing, impact glass and other wind resistant features.
- Educational vocabulary. There are many great schools in our region, including public, private, charter, independent and religious schools. For many families moving from other parts of the country, the options for selecting a school for their child can be overwhelming. However, our schools offer students amazing opportunities to learn in the classroom, compete on the fields and begin to chase their dreams.
- Home Owners Associations. Many neighborhoods in Palm Beach County are developed communities with monthly or quarterly association dues. In some communities the dues simply cover community areas such as playgrounds, parks and pools. While in others the fees include landscaping, cable, and amenities like golf memberships, on-site restaurants and security.
