Why Tequesta's Gallery Square North Keeps Getting New Restaurants in the Same Doorways

  • October 22, 2026

"TRG's goal is to enhance these community favorites while preserving the character that makes them special." Tequesta Restaurant Group said that in August, when it announced it had bought two neighboring spots on Tequesta Drive, as JupiterDaily reported.

The two businesses are Local's Pub at 381 Tequesta Drive and The Salty Zebra next door at 377. The company behind the purchase is new, founded by four local residents: Gary Haseley, Dan Reedy, Bob Bailey and Ken Kennerly. If you've lived near Gallery Square North for a while, you may remember these storefronts under other names. The turnover is real, but the nightlife never left. The doorways keep their restaurants because the Village's alcohol variances stay with the space through every change of owner, and each new operator builds on what the last one was allowed to do.

What a Village Memo Shows About One Storefront

A Village of Tequesta Community Development staff memo prepared for the October 8, 2026 Village Council meeting traces how the 381 Tequesta Drive space got to where it is today.

The starting point is a Village Code rule. Section 78-298 requires 1,000 feet between a business serving alcohol for on-site consumption and any church, school or youth center. Distance is measured in a straight line from main entrance to main entrance. Businesses inside Gallery Square North sit closer than that, so each one serving drinks has needed a variance.

The memo lists the approvals within the plaza in order:

  1. 2019: Vintage Wine and Charcuterie got a variance to serve beer and wine at 381 Tequesta Drive.
  2. 2020: Via Proxy got its own variance within Gallery Square North.
  3. 2021: Casa Cana, the space later known as The Salty Zebra, got a variance.
  4. 2023: Local's Pub opened at 381 and won approval to add liquor to the existing beer and wine permission.

In the staff's words, "the variance runs with the property, the previously granted relief remains in effect." A wine bar's 2019 approval became the base for a pub that serves liquor. That pub is now being handed to a third operator, and the earlier relief still applies.

The Hours Are the Part Up for Discussion

TRG did not have to ask for a new variance for either space. Its application, VAR 01-26, asks for one thing only: a change to the hours set for Local's Pub in 2023.

Day Hours approved in 2023 Hours TRG requested
Monday to Thursday 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. 11:00 a.m. to midnight
Friday 4:00 p.m. to midnight 11:00 a.m. to midnight
Saturday Noon to midnight 11:00 a.m. to midnight
Sunday Noon to 10:00 p.m. 11:00 a.m. to midnight

The weekday change is the big one. Under the 2023 schedule, Local's doesn't open until late afternoon Monday through Friday. The request would let it serve lunch every day and stay open two hours later Monday through Thursday. The memo leaves the decision to the Council, based on the evidence at the public hearing and the six variance criteria in Section 78-65 of the Village Code.

The memo also explains why The Salty Zebra space wasn't part of the request. The Casa Cana variance from 2021 never set specific limits on hours, so the change of operator there didn't require any modification. Both spaces still fall under the Village's general limit in Chapter 6 of the code. Alcohol can't be sold between midnight and 7:00 a.m., except on Friday and Saturday nights, when sales can continue until 1:00 a.m.

Next Door, The Salty Zebra Becomes The Pub Tequesta

The 377 Tequesta Drive space is getting the bigger change. The Salty Zebra ran there as a modern American bistro known for a chef-driven menu and locally sourced ingredients, according to JupiterDaily. TRG plans a complete renovation and a reopening as The Pub Tequesta, which it calls an upscale sports-and-dining destination.

The plans call for elevated food and cocktails, live entertainment, premium televisions and what the ownership group calls a state-of-the-art audiovisual system. JupiterDaily reported a renovation target of late November 2026. The Pub Tequesta's own website says "Opening November 2026" and doesn't give a specific day. If you're reading this at the end of October, the doors are still a few weeks from opening, and the menu and chef haven't been announced.

The new restaurant changes the mix on that end of the plaza. Two side-by-side spaces that used to run as a pub and a bistro will both be sports-and-entertainment rooms under one owner, each with a different price point and feel. TRG has said Local's will keep its atmosphere, menu favorites, live entertainment and familiar staff.

How the Plaza Runs Through a Week Right Now

The ownership changes matter because Gallery Square already has a weekly schedule built around these doorways. Here's how it looks from Thursday to Sunday, using each venue's posted schedule.

Thursday night. Local's has live local talent on Thursdays and Fridays. It doesn't post set times, so check before you go. The pub has long run on a no-reservations basis, with sports on big screens and pub food.

Friday night. Two doors offer live music. Local's has its second weekly music night, and Gallery Grille at 383 Tequesta Drive has live music every Friday from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., with Pam & Dave listed on its site. Gallery Grille calls itself a spot for premium seafood, grill classics and global favorites in an art-filled room, and it says it has served Tequesta since 2000. Its next-door neighbors have changed several times since then, and it's still there.

Saturday morning. The Tequesta Market sets up at Gallery Square North Plaza from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It used to be called the Tequesta Farmer's Market and came back under the new name. JupiterDaily's event listing puts it in the back left corner of the plaza and says to look for the flag tent. Expect local vendors with fresh produce, baked goods, specialty foods and handmade items.

Sunday. Local's shows out-of-market NFL games on DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket on Sunday afternoons. Across the street at Gallery Square South, Perk Coffee House at 384 Tequesta Drive advertises live music on Sundays, coffee, and vegan and gluten-friendly food. Its contact page lists hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Its homepage also mentions a new location in the Village of North Palm Beach, so a quick call before you head over is a good idea.

Look at the Sunday schedule next to the hours table. Under the 2023 approval, Local's can't open before noon on Sundays and has to close by 10:00 p.m. The requested schedule would let it open at 11:00 a.m. and stay open until midnight. Every Sunday of the season runs right up against that rule.

What Changes on the Block by Thanksgiving

Here's where the plaza is likely to stand by late November. Gallery Grille will still have Friday music. The Saturday market will still meet in the back left corner. Local's will still be open, under the 2023 hours or new ones, depending on how the Council handles VAR 01-26. And The Pub Tequesta should be opening, or close to it, in the space where Casa Cana and then The Salty Zebra ran before it, using the same variance they relied on.

Owner after owner has made the same bet at this address. Vintage Wine and Charcuterie got the first approval at 381 in 2019, and Local's Pub built on it in 2023 instead of starting over. TRG is the latest to do it, with two spaces at once and a request to keep Local's open from lunch until midnight. If The Pub Tequesta opens on schedule, Gallery Square North will have more evening options in late November than it does tonight.
